If this is your first time fasting, here are some details or just need a refresher.

What is fasting?

The simple definition of fast is not eating. People who fasted in the bible did it for spiritual purposes. Fasting typically involves abstaining from all food, solid or liquid, but not water, for a determined amount of time with specific spiritual goals. Fasting is not dieting. You may shed a few pounds or lose a couple of inches, but that is not the sole purpose of calling a fast.

IF OUR FAST IS NOT UNTO THE LORD, THEN IT HAS FAILED.

Isaiah 58:6-9 describes the type of fast God desires (a holy fast).

"No, this is the kind of fasting I want: Free those wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free and remove the chains that bind people. Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help. "Then your salvation will come like the dawn, and your wounds will quickly heal. Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the Lord will protect you from behind. Then when you call, the Lord will answer. 'Yes, I am here,' he will quickly reply. "Remove the heavy yoke of oppression. Stop pointing your finger and spreading vicious rumors!" Isaiah 58:6-9 NLT

The focus of the fast must be God. Our attention during a fast must be entirely on God. We should spend more time reading the Bible.  It might be helpful to abstain from TV and social media or other distractions.

What if I take medication, can I still fast? If you take medication or have a condition that requires you to eat, please check with your doctor before fasting. We strongly suggest that you follow your doctor's orders.

Can pregnant women fast? Please check with your OB/GYN before fasting. We strongly suggest following your doctor's advice.
